“Supergirl” star Melissa Benoist has joined the voice cast of Netflix’s He-Man adaptation, “Masters of the Universe: Revolution” as heroine Teela, Mattel said Wednesday. The animated series will debut on the streamer in 2024.

The All-Star cast includes Benoist’s husband Chris Wood as the mighty He-Man, Mark Hamill as villainous Skeletor, and William Shatner in a yet-to-be announced role.

“I jumped at the opportunity to work alongside my friend, Kevin Smith and join the ‘Revolution’ family as another bold and fearless heroine,” Benoist said. “I look forward to sharing the next evolution of Teela’s story with fans.”

Set as the follow-up to 2021’s “Revelation,” “Revolution” finds Teela, He-Man and the rest of the Masters as they struggle to save Eternia from the tangles of darkness. The character was voiced in “Revelation” by “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Wolf Pack” star Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Per the logline, “‘Revolution’ is an all-new story that focuses on the classic He-Man vs. Skeletor rivalry in a way audiences have never seen before. It’s technology up against magic as He-Man and the heroic warriors face the forces of Skeletor and a deadly threat to the Planet in the next epic chapter in the battle for Eternia.”

“On the heels of our 40th anniversary, He-Man is more prevalent in pop culture than ever before, which is why we’re especially excited to bring the force that is Melissa Benoist into the fold,” said Fred Soulie, senior VP and general manager at Mattel Television. “Melissa already exemplifies every aspect of Teela’s formidable personality, and we know that she will continue to showcase the same heart as she did in ‘Supergirl,’ providing audiences with a new iteration of a classic character synonymous with strength and heroism.”

This is Benoist’s third collaboration with Smith: She appeared in his films “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” and “Clerks III.” She previously worked with Wood in the earlier seasons of Supergirl, where he recurred as superhero Mon-El.

Benoist will next appear in HBO Max’s “The Girl on the Bus.” She previously played Marley on “Glee” and appeared in films including “Whiplash” and “Patriots Day.”

“Masters of the Universe: Revolution” is executive produced by Mattel’s Fred Soulie, Rob David and Christopher Keenan, as well as Smith and Ted Biaselli.

Wonder if Melissa will geek out knowing she'll be, aside working with husband Chris, working with JAMES TIBERIUS KIRK of Star Trek.

By the way, in the OG Masters of the Universe, which this person remembers from back in the day, Linda Gary was Teela as well as The Sorceress.

Mattel has announced that Supergirl's Melissa Benoist has joined the voice cast of the upcoming He-Man adaptation, Masters of the Universe: Revolution.

Benoist, who is fresh off her run as the titular superhero Kara Danvers/Kara Zor-El in the hit CW show Supergirl, will voice the heroine Teela in the upcoming series, which serves as a sequel to Kevin Smith's acclaimed 2021 limited animated series, Masters of the Universe: Revelation. He-Man and Teela's Story Is Far From Over

Masters of the Universe: Revolution was announced in June 2022 during Netflix's Geeked Week, with the upcoming follow-up set to follow Teela, He-Man and the rest of the Masters as they "struggle to save Eternia from the tangles of darkness. Revolution is an all-new story that focuses on the classic He-Man vs. Skeletor rivalry in a way audiences have never seen before," reads the series' official synopsis. "It’s technology up against magic as He-Man and the heroic warriors face the forces of Skeletor and a deadly threat to the Planet in the next epic chapter in the battle for Eternia."

Masters of the Universe: Revolution will mark Benoist’s third collaboration with Kevin Smith, having previously appeared in the films Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019) and Clerks III (2022). Her role as Teela will also be her second time working with her husband Chris Wood, who appeared in multiple seasons of Supergirl as Mon-El. Wood will reprise his role from Revelation as He-Man, with legendary voice actor Mark Hamill also back as Skeletor. They will be joined by Star Trek's William Shatner who boarded the series in July 2022 in an undisclosed role.

Masters of the Universe: Revolution will debut on Netflix in 2024.

If the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists SAG-AFTRA goes on strike there won’t be actors doing panels at SDCC. Per The Wrap

Along with stepping away from all film and television productions worldwide, actors will not be permitted to take part in promotional work of any kind, including press junkets, film premieres, and fan events like San Diego Comic-Con. Actors are permitted to attend the pop culture convention as long as they don’t take part in any panels that promote a specific film or television show or discuss any current or future work. While attendance is allowed, individuals with knowledge of the publicist meeting tell TheWrap that SAG-AFTRA would prefer that its members completely skip the event later this month.

My guess is if SAG-AFTRA does call a strike actors along with the already on strike Writers Guild of America WGA members will picket near SDCC instead of attending. SAG-AFTRA may go on strike if a deal isn’t reached by midnight pacific time on 7/12/2023.

Well as people here were talking about the strike in Hollywood, it has ended. But frankly, given the current leftist woke state of things, and that 5 of the 6 major studios are run by people with links to the Chinese Communist Party...I could care less about what happens there.

In a Thursday memo signed by union president Fran Drescher and national executive director and chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, SAG-AFTRA members were ordered “to cease rendering all services and performing all work covered by the TV/Theatrical Contracts” once the strike begins.

This article in People outlines the strike rules for SAG-AFTRA members which include. Work on TV shows and movies will halt, shutting down production completely. Off-camera work including re-recording dialogue, voice acting, narration and stunt coordination is forbidden. Promoting new projects—including tours, personal appearances, and attendance at premieres and screenings—is also not allowed. Interviews are also off the table, as well as podcast appearances and promotion on social media. Actors cannot appear at any conventions, fan expos or festivals in order to promote “any project that was made under the TV/theatrical agreement”.

There’s always a possibility that a new contract is negotiated by next week in time for SDCC, personally I don’t think that’s going to happen. I think the actors are in this long haul just like the writers.

I don't think so either.The AMPTP are pretty dug in right now on not budging on some of the WGA & SAG's big points. There was even a report this week that the AMPTP is willing to wait it out for like six to 8 months until writers start losing their homes and not be able to pay for food in order to force them to accept what the AMPTP will offer.

These strikes could be going for a long while.

According to Deadline Masters Of The Universe: Revolution is set to hit Netflix on January 25, 2024. I don’t currently have Netflix, curse their password sharing rules which stopped me from mooching. I’ll put it on my list of things to watch when there’s several things I want to watch so it’s worth it to pay for a month before canceling.
